Meditation is an effortless technique that allows your mind to settle inward, beyond thinking, to experience pure awareness — the most silent and peaceful level of the mind, your innermost Self.

The technique is practiced for twenty minutes twice-daily, sitting comfortably with eyes closed. Simple, natural and easy to learn, it doesn’t require clearing your mind of thoughts or concentrating. It’s so effortless, within just a few minutes anyone can transcend or go beyond worries and agitation.

Adding meditation practice to your daily routine, morning and evening, more than makes up for the time it takes to meditate.

Meditation technique refreshes an adult’s busy or over-stimulated mind. Kids practicing the technique do better at school, adult become more empowered—in their professions and their day-to-day life.

More About Meditation

When we speak of meditation, most people think of sitting in the lotus flower position  and close your eyes, and just think about anything. This idea about the practice is one of the main reasons why so few people have the habit to meditate. To think of anything is a quite difficult task!

In fact, we can think of meditation as a train station: our perception it’s like a passenger on the platform, watching the trains go by, one after another, and the tracks ahead. The trains are our thoughts; during meditation, they are still going through our minds. But it is not succeeding because trains are passing by the platform and we need to get in one – not because we have an image to mind, a reminder or concern that we need to throw on them. We can only observe them going , and realize amazed how they come and go.

The mind can not do anything but think. We have on average 60,000+  thoughts per day and 90 % of them are exactly the same as we had the day before. It Is this overactive brain that makes us feel exhausted and tormented with everyday life.

When we dedicate ourselves to the process of observing our mind – see how it works , what are the most recurrent thoughts, what is your move to distract us from ourselves , always thinking about what has passed or what has not happened yet – that dominate the mind instead of being enslaved by it.

There are numerous techniques, forms and levels of meditation, which provides that the practice benefits everyone, even those who have never meditated in life. It need not be sitting; just that your mind is engaged only to watch herself.

Benefits of Meditation

In general, the objectives pursued through meditative practices are always the same. Our minds are constantly working, is settling in the past, is gearing up for the future, which makes it very difficult to stay focused on the present moment. Meditation is nothing more than a method that seeks to dispel all thoughts of worry, anxiety, fear or expectation, bringing attention to this practitioner, either through observation of his inner world in solitary practice, it is using the images that are generated from the instructions given in guided practice. When the mind is silent, the present moment is experienced and, with proper care, it becomes possible to separate the thoughts of our identity. When there is the recital of mantras, observe the movements of the mind by establishing a clear goal for it (the repetition of words or phrases).

There are many benefits experienced by practicing meditation, among them stand out to improve concentration, memory and attention span , and profoundly positive effects on sleep quality of those who dedicate themselves to Meditation with certain frequency. Other commonly reported benefits are associated with the gradual increase of self-discipline, determination and progressive decrease feelings of anxiety and mental restlessness .

Among the religious philosophies of the East who adopt meditation as a religious practice towards attaining a higher spiritual state stand Buddhism, Brahmanism, Taoism and also some martial arts like IChuan and Tai Chi Chuan. Generally anyone can meditate, regardless of age or physical condition.

Meditation and Brain Regeneration

Thousands of people already use meditation to deal with problems such as stress, chronic pain and hypertension, among others. The novelty now is that neuroscientists and researchers are trying to prove in practice the true effect of meditation techniques in the brain functioning. The research has been on the concept of neuroplasticity, the idea that what we focus our attention on not being able to reshape the brain and its functioning in ways extremely important.

The results indicate that the effects of regular meditation protect brain cells from damage associated with the aging process, as well as those resulting from auto-immune diseases and other inflammatory conditions. A survey conducted by Harvard Medical University showed significant beneficial changes in the genes of people who regularly practiced meditation or self-induced relaxations.

Studies from Emory University showed in 2007 that those who meditate regularly seem to avoid some processes characteristic of the natural process of aging, such as the decline of brain areas related to motor control and learning. Repetition disciplined and regular meditation lead to brain changes that might be observed in imaging studies.

Furthermore, research shows that meditation practice can act as a workout to the “brain muscle”, becoming stronger and thicker the anterior cingulate cortex, brain area related to pain mechanisms. In the aging process the region becomes thinner and more fragile, like the skin of the elderly which loses elasticity and life, but according to ongoing research, meditation preserves and even regenerates the density of neurons in several brain areas, suggesting that supporters of meditative practices can, day after day, to keep their brains young and healthy.
